RamDreamer,
Will the $75 only apply to those people who do the "points only" option or with everyone submit an extra $75 for the point in addition to the tag fee?
Thanks,

MNHunter,
The way I read that announcement, I interpret that to mean that you pay $75 for the "point only" route, or $75 is deducted from your refund if unsuccessful in the draw. So it appears to me that you don't have to put in an additional $75 for the pref pt, but it would be deducted prior to sending you your refund.

I'm going to try to get to the Wyoming FNAWS fund raiser on the first weekend of June and there will be some knowledgeable folks there from Game & Fish, so will know more after that. I am also going to try to go to the Game & Fish meeting in Laramie on this subject, but I'll have to see if my back can handle that kind of a trip at that time.

Thanks RamDreamer,
I just mailed off my letter to the F&G. Good luck at the meetings and, as always, keep us posted.

If you'd like to see the actual 2004 legislation, which authorized the increase, you can find a couple of different versions on-line at: http://legisweb.state.wy.us/2004/enroll/hb0055.pdf or at: http://legisweb.state.wy.us/2004/introduced/hb0055.pdf

Two things to note are: 1) Two years of not applying and you lose your previously accumulated points in one version and a single year not in the draw and you lose all points in the other and 2) Wyoming Game & Fish is actually authorized to go to $100 for a preference point on sheep or moose.

It was thought that the increase would be 1,071%... Well, it ended up worse than expected as the Wyoming Game & Fish Commission went for the top amount allowed by the legislation with respect to bighorn sheep... The increase is nearly 1,429% all at once.

The below is excerpted from: http://gf.state.wy.us/services/news/pressreleases/05/07/15/050715_2.asp

G&F COMMISSION ADDRESSES WOLVES, BEARS AND OTHER ISSUES AT JULY 12-13 MEETING

7/15/2005

The commission established the specific regulations so a nonresident preference point system for elk, deer and antelope passed by the 2004 legislature can begin in 2006. The commission set the preference point fee for elk at $50, deer $40 and antelope $30 for adult hunters. The youth hunter’s preference point fee for each species will be $10. All nonresident hunters can opt not to participate in the preference point system if they wish. Like the moose and bighorn sheep quotas, 75 percent of the elk, deer and antelope quotas will be issued to applicants with the most preference points and 25 percent of the quota will be issued in a random drawing without respect to preference points.

The legislation also gave the commission the authority to raise the nonresident preference point fees for moose and bighorn sheep. The seven-member board set the nonresident moose fee at $75 and the bighorn sheep fee at $100.

The commission’s actions regarding preference points only affect nonresidents.
