FWP seeks help in solving bighorn poaching

GREAT FALLS (AP) - The state is asking for help in solving the poaching of a bighorn sheep near Craig this winter.

The ewe was shot and killed near the Stickey Creek Subdivision between Craig and Cascade. Several deer also have been illegally killed in the area, said Bryan Golie, a state Fish, Wildlife and Parks Department game warden.

No bighorn hunting district currently exists near the rural subdivision, although the state is considering the establishment of one, he said.

A bighorn ram was poached in the same area two years ago. That case was settled in March, when Steve Lendrum was sentenced to 10 years probation, fined $47,000 and had his hunting and fishing privileges taken away for 10 years for the offense.

Anyone with information about the newest poaching is asked to call 1-800-TIPMONT. Rewards up to $1,000 are available.
