There are two Bighorn sheep tags posted on Ebay for the McDermott Indian Reservation. The auctions end on June 3rd. Anyone have any idea what sheep hunting at McDermott is like?

From the description of the area, I would think these would be California Bighorns.
This is the first I've ever seen, or heard, of anything related to sheep hunting and this particular Reservation. |

Yes, Ramdreamer, you are correct. This area is directly north of the Santa Rosa Range here in Nevada. I'm not sure if these California sheep migrated north, or came from a herd in Oregon.
I might have to do some quick research to see if one would have a legitimate shot at taking a decent (150-160 class) ram. Heck, this would only be a 3.5 hour drive from my house. |

I think I'd call the Nevada and Oregon biologists for the adjacent non-reservation land to find out if there are even any rams that use reservation land on more than an occassional basis. I see there have been some good questions posed to the seller that there have not really been any good answers for. I'm more than just a little skeptical that they may selling tags on the hope that the rams will be on reservation land sometime in that period. If they have any decent rams on their land then in my opinion it might be a good buy. I do know there are good rams nearby in both Oregon and Nevada and conceivably they could spend part of the year on reservation land.

NVBighorn,
I have to agree with you that a lot about these tags seems hokey. The fact the seller is in charge of the bids because Pat doesn't have a computer is a red flag. Then there is the issue of a complete lack of knowledge of the herd dynamics. It is definitley a case of "buyer beware". I wonder if Hornbarger would know anything about this hunt? I think I'll pass because of the 150+ to 1 draw odds on the California and the 1000+ to 1 odds on the Rocky...I think I'm a shoe-in for a tag here in Nevada. Best of luck to you in the draws! Check your CC next week, my records show that they charged my card on June 7th of last year. |

Hornbarger would be a good one to talk to. I will be seeing a friend from Winnemucca tomorrow and he knows a lot about those sheep. I will quiz him.

The two sheep tags sold for $16,100 and $22,100. That's more than I thought they would go for with the mystery behind the area. I guess somebody found out some good information.

Yes somebody found out some good information..............or they entered their bids blindly.

The tag that went for 22 grand, do not be surprised if they kid does not pay. check out his feedback.

In case anyone out there missed this eBay auction. I have a fully guided CA bighorn hunt for sale with a very good outfitter with a proven track record.
I am considering trying to sell it on eBay. Any takers? John more info on this thread. http://wildsheep.org/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/1226055494/m/86...691013261#4691013261 |
