From a flyer I picked up at the Washington Chapter FNAWS booth at the FNAWS convention in Reno in February...

The Washington Chapter of the Foundation for North American Wild Sheep (WA FNAWS) is proud to offer the second annual Rocky Mountain Bighorn raffle for Washington state. Rocky Mountain Bighorn hunting was re-opened in 2005 following a large scale pastuerella die-off that occurred in 1995-1996. Over $68,000 was raised by WA FNAWS with the 2005 raffle permit. The lucky winner, Mr. Randy Pittman from Maryland, harvested a beautiful ram that green scored 187 Boone & Crockett points. The proceeds from the raffle go to specifically benefit Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep projects in southeastern Washington.

Hunting Season Dates: September 1 - October 31, 2006.

Hunt Area: Black Butte, Wenaha and Tucannon herds in GMUs 166, 169, 181 and 186.

The winner of this raffle tag will be the only bighorn permit holder in three of the four open GMUs. License and tag provided by Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife (WDFW) at no charge to the winner of this raffle. Actual GMUs to be set at April WDFW meeting.

To changes from your original post RamDreamer that are worth noting:

1. The Tucannon GMU was dropped and Mountain View was added.

2. The season was extended and now runs from Sept. 1 through Dec. 31, 2006.

Both of these changes were approved by the WDFW commission during thier April meeting.

Thanks for the clarifications, Ramslam. The extended season length / dates should make this tag all more desirable.

What happened in SE Washington with the raffle tag hunter? Who got the tag? Rumor of sorts has it that there was a big 200B&C ram taken this year.

John Amistoso of Spokane was the lucky winner of the Rocky raffle. He killed a good ram (not 200) with Tucanonn Outfitters, guided by Craig Martin and Earl Landrus. Look for a picture and details in the WAFNAWS newsletter which goes to print next week.
