The 2006 "Commission Approved Tentative 12-12-05" Montana Hunting Regulations booklet for Moose, Bighorn Sheep and Mountain Goat is available for viewing and/or download at: http://fwp.mt.gov/FwpPaperApps/hunting/2006tentMSGregs.pdf

Other species may also be accessed from this page (scroll down to the bottom): http://fwp.mt.gov/hunting/regulations.html

The FWP Commission will adopt these regulations as final on February 21, 2006.

The drawing application deadline is May 1st, 2006. The amount for the tags stayed the same ($750). It was scheduled to increase to $980 in 2006 per some legislative action a few years ago - so either they decided not to increase or simply forgot. The Conservation License, which you must buy to apply, went to $10 for a non-resident ($8 for a resident).

Whatever you do DON'T send in cash!!! A friend of mine called me the middle of the year in 2005 explaining what had happened to him... He got in a jam and it was crunch time for the application so he mailed in cash. When results were posted and he didn't have anything come up he contacted Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks. They said they never got the application nor the $ so that was it, period. No bonus point, no refund, no entry into the 2005 draw. An expensive lesson learned.

MNHunter,

I'm not sure, that's something I don't track in Montana as the fees associated with doing so are pretty high. But come to think of it, the one year that I did apply on-line I actually drew a tag - hmmm, something for me to reconsider.

The commission just met on the 21st of February to finalize everything for this draw, so we should see some guidelines shortly.

Hi RamDreamer, Do you happen to know when Montana will be sending the regulations/applications booklets out? I sent them an e-mail and they said I would be put on the mailing list but I haven't received anything yet. Thanks Joe

PS-Thanks for the update on the Super-Tag, now that would be a great tag!!

Lookingfor#1,

Montana's commission just approved everything on 2/21/06. That press release just hit their website today.

Given that, I would expect it to be late this month or early April for the printed stuff to start hitting mailboxes. I don't have records for the last couple of years with respect to when regulations books arrived in the mail.

When the drawings are completed, you'll be able to find your results at: http://fwp.mt.gov/hunting/licensedraw/results.aspx

In the meantime, you can check on the status of your application (to be sure you're actually in the draw). You will need to enter your ALS number (birthdate plus ALS assigned number).

Note that results were posted to the website last year on 6/13/05 and that I received all refunds in the mail on Friday, 6/24/05.
