I was drawn for the non-resident permit in Unit 183, in the Clan Alpine Mountains. Hoping to do this hunt on my own, planning to do some scouting in August. I am trying to obtain the UTM coordinates of the Guzzlers in the range, NDOW is not too cooperative. Does anyone out there have the UTM's of the Guzzlers.

Thanks for your response

I'd start with the Fraternity of the Desert Bighorn in Las Vegas, if I were you. Their website is http://www.desertbighorn.com and there are points of contact contained thereon.

Who have you talked to at NDOW? They publish a book of maps with all guzzlers and it includes a list of all guzzlers and their UTMs. It's available for sale. When are you hunting? Early? Late? Email me at Bighorns@hotmail.com

And no, I am not a guide trying to get your business. Smile

Thanks for all your replies, I was able to get the Guzzler locations from the BLM office in Carson City, NDOW is out of there Guzzler Atlas until September and I can't wait that long as I am going to do some scouting in August when it's hot and the sheep will be on the water. Want to see what size Rams are out there.

One note: the New NDOW Guzzler Atlas will not include the UTMs as they feel that its too easy to find them, and thus vandalize them ? so they say, can't understand why anyone would do that ?

The sheep in that area do use some of the guzzlers but there is also free water. I saw 7 or 8 from the highway (50) couple weeks ago. No big rams. Just young guys.

IDHunter,

You'd be surprised at the amount of damage that has been caused to guzzlers/drinkers/holding tanks. There are some serious anti-water folks out there.

ID Hunter: Please post your contact info so I can reach you. My close friend hunted and killed a ram in this unit last year. I'll see what I can do for you.

FixedPower, I have gathered most maps, orthophotos, road locations, and now have the locations of the Guzzlers in the Clan Alpine Range. I have recieved some valuable info from NVBighorn (thanks NVBighorn)on there to look for the Rams, but any info you have would be greatly appreciated. I did post my email address.

Thanks a Bunch.
