California's 2005 Big Game Hunting Booklet, as well as Desert Bighorn application, is now on-line and available to view or download at http://www.dfg.ca.gov/licensing/biggame/biggamebook.html

You must buy the hunting license in order to enter the draw. Application fee is $7.25 this year. Note that "APPLICANTS MUST BE AT LEAST 16 YEARS OF AGE ON OR BEFORE JULY 1, 2005".

Application deadline is June 2, 2005.

The number of license tags for 2005 were adopted by the California Fish and Game Commission at their meeting on May 5, 2005...

Zone 1 - Marble/Clipper Mountains = 3
Zone 2 - Kelso Peak/Old Dad Mountains = 4
Zone 3 - Clark/Kingston Mountain Ranges = 1
Zone 4 - Orocopia Mountains = 0 (down from 1 in 2004)
Zone 5 - San Gorgonio Wilderness = 1 (down from 2 in 2004)
Zone 6 - Sheep Hole Mountains = 2 (up from 1 in 2004)
Zone 7 - White Mountains = 3 (new unit, 3 new tags)
Open Zone Fund-Raising Tags = 2 (up from 1 in 2004)
Total: 16 (up 3 from 13 in 2004)

Note to non-residents, you won't be drawing California this year...

As you probably know, California will only issue a maximum of one non-resident Desert Bighorn tag per year. Jack Hinds of Colorado has drawn a non-resident tag for Desert Bighorn in California's Zone 1, Marble / Clipper Mountains for 2005. Jack is a 3/4 slammer (needing a Desert), so this hunt will be for his slam ram. Congratulations to Jack.
