New Open Areas! The Conklin Foundation, in partnership with the Grand Slam Club/Ovis, has received written confirmation that at the 2006 Conklin Award Event, it will have the honor of auctioning to the highest bidder the Alaska Governor’s Dall Sheep Permit for area 14C. The rams from 14C are legendary and sheep from the Chugach Mountains are renown for their large bases and heavy horns. But this permit gets even better! What makes this special permit even more desirable is that for the 2006 season, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game is opening up to hunting three new areas that have not been hunted since 1975. This new 70- square- mile combined area (West Rainbow Creek, Southside Eagle River, and Ram Valley) will be available only to this special permit holder and a single state lottery permit holder. The greatest ram density is in the West Rainbow Creek drainage and more than 30 full curl rams have been observed during aerial surveys of this valley. These new areas are reported to hold some truly awesome rams. For the hunter wanting an opportunity to hunt an exceptional trophy Dall ram, this is it.
Thanks for the info. I was just curious to see if one of the big time bowhunters was going to try and get this permit as it would be a resonable chance at a new archery world record. There are some big rams in there that are not to spooky of people. Thanks for the update.
