I'll be going on my first ever sheep hunt this August and need some help from you knowledgeable guys. I’ll be flying to Whitehorse Yukon and driving south into BC to hunt Stone’s Sheep. I want to use a taxidermist experienced with wild sheep so I won’t be using any of the locals here at home (I live in South Carolina).

Should I try to find a taxidermist in Whitehorse or plan to bring the trophy home and ship it to a US taxidermist when I get back? Any ideas or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Let’s all hope I need a taxidermist after the hunt!!!!!

I left a sheep with a taxidermist in that area. i am very unhappy with the mount. i would make sure that you know the quality of the person you send it to before you go. dont make a decision based on one persons opinion. i have used animal artistry in reno and dakota taxidermy in north dakota. one thing to consider up north is that shipping a trophy back to the us can be costly. i had a sheep get held up and was charged storage fees in a customs facility my bill was about $1000. dakota taxidermy picks up trophies at several outfitters in bc and the yukon.

Hey SC hunter be in good shape mentaly and physicaly for your hunt and never give up hope for finding your sheep and it would't hurt to pray. I got my first sheep last September a 40" Dall in Alaska on the last day of the hunt. I'm very particular about taxidermy but can't aford the top dollar one either. I found a taxidermist thats after his Grand Slam with a bow he's got a Dall and a Bighorn and knows what they should look like, his name is Barry Smith of Alpine Taxidermy 970-725-3534 in Co. He done a fantastic job on a pedistal mount for me and have it back already, sheep must be more fun to work on.
