From page 5 of the synopsis...: SPECIAL LIMITED ENTRY HUNTS FOR 2010 Roosevelt Elk and Mountain Sheep special limited entry hunts are available to resident hunters in 2010. These special hunts are supported by the Wild Sheep Society of British Columbia, the BC Wildlife Federation and the Guide Outfitters Association of BC. While the special LEH allows the animal to be taken in excess of the regular bag limit, a second species licence may not be purchased until after the first species licence has been cancelled. If an animal is harvested during the special hunt, it will not be considered in the calculation of reduced odds for future LEH applications. There is only one special resident LEH authorization for Roosevelt Elk and one for Mountain Sheep. There are NO Group Hunt applications for this draw. DEADLINE AND DRAW DATE The applications deadline for Special Limited Entry Hunt opportunities is Thursday, July 2, 2009. The draw date for these hunts will be July 15, 2009. Please note, that although the deadline and draw dates are in 2009, the hunts do not take place until 2010. HOW TO APPLY You may purchase and submit as many Special LEH applications as you wish. Applications are available from all regular LEH application vendors OR you may apply by completing the online LEH application and VISA/Mastercard Payment Authorization form, and faxing them together to 250-387-4339. These forms may be downloaded from the following website: www.env.gov.bc.ca/fw/wildlife/.../leh.html#SpecialLEH The non refundable application fee for each special LEH application is $15.75 (includes GST). Ten dollars of application fee will be directed to a special account in the Habitat Conservation Trust Foundation (HCTF) for projects specific to Sheep and Elk management. WHO IS ELIGIBILE TO APPLY Any resident who is eligible to hunt in BC (holds a Resident Hunter Number in good standing) may apply. A resident who applies for the special LEH draw may also apply for any regular LEH draw. MAILING INSTRUCTIONS These Special LEH applications MUST be received in Victoria by 4:30 pm July 2, 2009. Proof of postage, i.e. postmarks, cannot be taken into consideration for late arrivals. The Fish and Wildlife Branch cannot accept responsibility for the non-arrival of an application to the Victoria address. DRAW DATE IS WEDNESDAY, JULY 15, 2009. NOTIFICATION The winners of the special LEH authorizations will be notified by mail.The winners will also be posted on the Ministry of Environment, Fish and Wildlife Branch website. www.env.gov.bc.ca/fw/wildlife/.../leh.html#SpecialLEH. Unsuccessful applicants will NOT be notified. SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT The successful applicant for the special LEH must hold a valid resident hunting licence, the Elk or Mountain Sheep species licence and the special LEH authorization while hunting. Please note that, while the special LEH authorization allows the hunter to harvest 2 Elk or 2 Sheep in the licence year, the hunter CANNOT hold more than one uncancelled Elk or Sheep species licence at any one time. MOUNTAIN SHEEP SPECIAL HUNT The successful applicant will have the opportunity to hunt either a bighorn or thinhorn ram Mountain Sheep during the dates listed below. If hunting a thinhorn ram sheep, the successful applicant may hunt 21 days prior to the opening date listed below for the region intended to hunt. If a Mountain Sheep is harvested during the special hunt, it will not be considered in the limit of one sheep per year. All other restrictions, including the location of open seasons, weapons restrictions, species, and sex listed in either this synopsis or the 2009/2010 Hunting and Trapping Regulations Synopsis apply to this special hunt. The successful applicant need not follow horn curl regulations that apply in the area hunted as the special LEH Mountain Sheep permit will be for “any ram”. 2010 Opening dates for Mountain Sheep (Subject to Change) Region 3 Thompson Sept. 10/10 Region 4 Kootenay Sept. 10/10 Region 5 Cariboo Sept. 1/10 Region 6 Skeena Aug. 1/10 Region 7 Omineca/Peace Aug. 1/10 Region 8 Okanagan Aug. 25/10 2010 Closing dates for Mountain Sheep (Subject to Change) In all Regions the closing dates are as follows: Bighorn Mountain Sheep Dec. 20/10 Thinhorn Mountain Sheep Mar. 31/11 Reminder: Special LEH draw winners in 2009 will be eligible to hunt in the fall of 2010. |
