Rumor has it that the draws have been conducted and that credit cards are starting to be hit for those successful applicants that applied on-line.

Hunters should know big game draw results by April 29

By April 29, many big game hunters will be excited after learning they drew a 2005 Utah big game permit in the state's annual big game draws.

Others will be disappointed because they didn't draw. If they want a general buck deer permit, though, they'll want to mark June 16 on their calendar. That's when general buck deer permits not taken in the draw will become available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Draw results

If you applied for a 2005 Utah big game permit, you should receive a letter in the mail by April 29, letting you know if you drew a permit.

Beginning at 8 a.m. April 29, hunters who don't receive a letter in the mail can learn whether they drew by logging onto this Web site or by calling the Utah Wildlife Administrative Services office at 1-800-221-0659.

Results of the limited entry, once-in-a-lifetime and Cooperative Wildlife Management Unit permit draw also will be posted at Division of Wildlife Resources offices in Ogden, Salt Lake City, Springville, Vernal, Price and Cedar City; the Lee Kay Public Shooting Ranges in Salt Lake City; and the Cache Valley Public Shooting Ranges in Logan.

Please note that there are rumors circulating around the Internet listing telephone numbers where callers can supposedly obtain early draw result information. Do not call these numbers — the rumors are untrue, and they lead to "adult-entertainment" sites.

Permits not taken in the draw

In addition to their draw results letter, applicants also will receive a list of permits not taken in the draw. This list also will be available on the DWR's Web site and at its six offices.

"All of the limited entry, once-in-a-lifetime and CWMU permits will probably be taken in the draw, but some general buck deer permits may still be available," Tutorow said. "Hunters who haven't obtained a permit can obtain one of these permits, on a first-come, first-served basis, beginning June 16."

Beginning June 16, hunters who have a major credit card can obtain a remaining general buck deer permit at the DWR's Web site (wildlife.utah.gov). If you don't have a credit card, you can obtain a permit at any of the DWR's six offices or from participating online license agents. As of April 12, 186 license agents had been connected to the DWR's online license agent system. More agents will be added as June 16 approaches.

2005 general season bull elk permits also will go on sale June 16.

For more information, call the Utah Wildlife Services Administrative office, the nearest Division of Wildlife Resources office or the DWR's Salt Lake City office at (801) 538-4700.

My wife and I both got "unsuccessful" e-mails from the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources. They were transmitted shortly after 1:00 a.m. this morning.
